They had a lot in common—Maria and Nick. Both industrious, determined, singleminded and practical. Love? Who had time to even go out that much? Work, and more work. Had to get places; Make a noise in this world. Day and night—that's what it takes. Maybe later, when a person had really gotten somewhere—when things were good, when one had it made. Sure, there would be plenty of time, someday. Then it would be easy, fun to look around and... And then they met.
