FRIENDS AND FELLOW-CITIZENS OF THE WORLD:

Insofar as to the great extent that I have pondered, here in the mansions of rest, the matter of my life and life in general since my departure from it—I offer to you the following sentiments for your contemplation.

Reflected by the integral passion and dedication for freedom that links all reasonable people, is the deeper truth of freedom that is one of the underpinnings of existence itself.

We are free to choose:

To see ourselves as separate from each other and by extension, our very point of origin;

To recognize that we are one with the great mystery that is All; and a non-exclusive common interest is not an illusion but a resounding component of Truth.

And in so doing the latter, we open ourselves to discovering the fine and resonating idea that the Universe has for our lives.

I feel that, in my own way, with its numerous peaks and valleys and glories and flaws—I was able to find the destiny in my life here.

I ardently wish the same for all of you.

Christiablo thought of the days since the turning point of Hallows' Eve. Her faithful hound Cere and she had been going further into transformation . She could feel a powerful but subtle energy vibrating through them. She wondered what was happening to them—what was going to happen.

Then one morning, she awoke and sat up. Her head still down and eyes closed, she sat there on the ground meditating—a hint of heat emanating from the campfire warming her and her pet.

She glanced at him. He was curled up, dozing. She smiled. Her faithful pup, her good pup, she thought to herself, drifting back into meditation.

Her eyes popped open. A cold rush went through her. She looked at Cere. He was waking up, his tail starting a slow wag. He looked at his mistress and smiled a dog's smile.

One head—he had one head, not three.

Christiablo shot to her feet, her blanket falling. Cere jumped up in response, ready for her bidding—circling, panting, staring at his beloved—with one set of eyes, not three.

The lady firebrand called her companion over and petted him. She felt tears starting to swell up. She wiped her eyes and realized something felt different. She put her hand to her head.

Her horns were gone.

She thought for a moment and all but slapped herself on the backside. Her tail—gone. She stood there, stunned.

There was a slight sense of sadness—of loss. But still, she was overcome with joy.

She hugged Cere; she was now crying unabashedly.

After several minutes she looked up, a thought occurring to her. She stirred the small bit of fire that remained and added twigs and a few pieces of wood. She poured some water for Cere.

She stepped out into the clearing a few yards and gazed skyward.

"I am and remain a Hellspawn, do I not?" she asked herself. Even though she knew she had changed profoundly, she wondered...

She raised her hands up above her head. A fierce arc of tremendous energy crackled sharply through the morning air—now positive, even stronger than before.

Christi smiled. True power remains.

The ghost of Gennifer Blackwood awoke at the sounds of human activity on the first floor of the mansion she had dwelled in since meeting a tragic, grisly end there decades earlier. Evening in Feliciana Parish was setting in a rich blue.

The spirit floated down to the high-ceilinged, richly appointed foyer and observed as a young man emerged from the breezeway toting a suitcase and bag. He was humming happily, excited at arriving at his new home.

Gennifer smiled a ghostly smile; she would change that. As she had done to several families before—she would drive him out with a nerve shattering, spectral assault.

She sprang into view directly in front of him.

"You are warned," she cried in a terrifying howl, "Leave this place or you will meet your doom!"

The man stopped cold and looked at her. A moment passed, then another.

"Uh, hi," he said, only slightly nonplussed, "My name is Brad. I just bought the place. Moved here from Philly for my job, you know. And you are...?"

The ghost of Gennifer Blackwood was stunned, uncertain how to respond. She shrieked even louder,

"I am your nightmare!! Run while you still caaaaannnnnn!!"

"Look, I think we got off on the wrong foot," replied Brad. "Let's start over. Have dinner with me. A charming, beautiful woman keeping me company my first night here would be a dream come true! What do you say?"

The spirit was at a loss. Distant, faded memories stirred. Had he called her beautiful? She looked at him closely. He had a friendly, earnest smile on his face.

He spoke again. "I hope I'm not being too forward. I didn't mean to creep you out or anything."

Gennifer stuttered quizzically, "You?—creep ME out?"

He continued, "I know it's short notice but it would mean a lot to me. You live around here, I take it?"

"This is my home," she answered, "I haunt the living while spending eternity in the prison of my own circumstance."

"Wow!" said Brad, "Tough day job! I'm in banking myself, so I know how that goes."

They dined that night; Brad on egg salad—Gennifer on the protoplasm of feelings long buried.

They grew to love each other, though he admitted to her later that he fell for her the moment he laid eyes on her.

They spent the years of Brad's life in the mansion. And when he died, he rose up to her side—and they passed over the threshold together.

Shortly after, a young family moved into the mansion. They spent many peaceful years there.

Whatever one's view on the institution of marriage—holy act or ecclesiastical con game of the ages, or somewhere inbetween—there is something to taking that vow before the eyes of the world.

That universe of ours we created with that first kiss—since then we've had our moments—ups and downs, loud and quiet, joyful and sad—

there's been some very good times--

but through it all, we have lived exclusively in that universe.
