Advancing: Part 108/17/2011 I've been making pies for 20 years, ever since I was a boy. Maggie and me have our own little parlor in a good spot downtown. We've been together for a long time now. I asked her to marry me a lot of times but she always said things were fine the way they were. One night, about 3 months ago, I was throwing some dough. Hey, it's the only way to do it and I consider myself pretty good. Well anyways, I was tossing and I was about to finish one up. I was putting it up there real high, like I do, and all of a sudden, it just stayed there—just stayed there in the air, spinning. It took me a couple of moments to realize what was happening. I thought, hey, I'm dreaming. But no, I was awake. I got scared and ran to the back of the kitchen. I stared at it. There it was, floating in the air. I watched it for a minute and decided I was going to get a closer look. I screwed up my courage. I consider myself a brave guy, hey, I served—and I walked slowly back to the prep counter. I gazed up and the dough slowly came back down. Out of reflex, I lifted my hands and caught it. I told Maggie. She thought I had fallen and hit my head or something, but then it happened again about a week later and she saw it. I know it's got her worried. These past few months, it's done it a couple of times a week. The dough will float and spin for a minute, and then slowly come back down. I'm not as scared now as I was. It's funny. Lately, business has been up, Maggie wants to get married and I think our pies are even better than before. But hey, they were always good.
