Lately, I have been sitting out in the warm evenings thinking about the future.
The present is a mixed bag; isn't it always?
The past is a shadow, full of revelations--
some I think I fully understand, some are still puzzling;
even as they impart a lesson that I feel at some level.
I am glad for what I have but is there something I should be doing,
something I should be changing?
There are things that I want to change. You know how it is.
Are we self-determining or is there an inevitable fate?
In some divinely mysterious fashion is it both?
There is a ring of truth there and I find myself able to accept it,
to understand it in my own way.
So what is the best thing to do with free will;
to not demonize the ego but to find it's rightful place?;
to go where you want to go, to where you should go?
I suppose the sages are right;
the answers are in the silence.
Surrender—and in so doing, move to victory.
In the distance, I see the nighthawk take flight.
