and Shannon and I were "frolicking" in a field on a picnic--
one of our favorite things to do.
I was laughing at something she said, a clever but gentle wit, my girl--
and I looked over at her and that's when it hit me--
the purest shot of Summer I had experienced all season.
There had been the days at the beach playing and shouting in the bright light of the loving sun,
and the road trips to unknown places for 24 hours of adventure and freedom.
And there was the finally cool nights, sitting around and talking about everything,
under the witness of the stars.
But in that sparkling moment, my girl Shannon,
with her red hair and green eyes and my undying devotion--
outdazzled it all,
and defined the memory of those days
that I will never forget.
When I look back, I hope to God she's looking with me.
