That would be no big deal but there's this look in her eyes, almost a blankness.
It's as if—it's not her; it's like someone else, or something else, is looking at me.
It lasts for several moments; she's completely silent.
I've tried making a silly face back and I've tried asking her if she's alright
and I've even tried mildly chiding her to the point of shouting,
"Hey, baby! What'cha doin'?"
No response for another 15, 20 seconds and then it's her again.
I've told her that sometimes she stares at me with an odd expression and she just laughs it off.
"Stare at you?! Like you're so good-looking!" she teases me.
Everything is really great between us, by the way. I believe she's the one.
I have wondered what it is that happens.
Could it be a malady of some sort and we should have it checked out?
She has regular exams and they always say that she's in perfect health.
Still, I'm considering telling her doctor.
Could it be some part of her that surfaces from deep inside the enigma that is the human being?
Could it be some inexplicable, outside entity that appears
for a reason I can't even begin to ascertain?
The thought that it is some other Being jars me and, I must admit, intrigues me--
and scares me a little, for her and myself.
Who is it? What is it?
Although at night, when we're alone and she draws me in, it occurs to me that--
that someone, that something—loves me, too.
