Shots Of Silver
It was Sunday morning.

As usual I got up real early, sometimes I'd think way too early, to work my shift driving rocketcab.

I yawned and pulled up the blinds to look out on my block—home sweet home.

The image stunned me. It sent me reeling back for a split second until my mind stopped me,
closed my eyes tight and made me think for a moment.

"Wait, you're seeing things, Charlie. Hold on, take a breath and open your eyes and look again."

I looked, and this time the sight of planets hovering right over the buildings
sent me falling back to the floor. I balled up and covered my head with my arms.

I sat there in a  panic for several moments. Trying to get a grip and steady my nerves,
I breathed hard and shakily got to my feet. Making my way slowly to the window,
I braced myself and looked out once more.

There they were.

I slid to the floor again and sat there.

So, it had really, finally happened.

The powers that be had been saying for months that after all these decades
of mysterious sightings and encounters, something was going to occur.
Something—definitive.

But stuff in the sky had been going on since the Atomic Age, and according to some, since forever.
I figured that people talk and who knows what anyway.

Of course, I always thought it would be something like a big mother ship
landing in the middle of Reverend King Square in Washington or something like that.
Just no mistaking it.

I would have never guessed this, but there was certainly no mistaking it.

Oh well, only one thing for it I told myself.

I cleaned up, got dressed, straightened my shoulders--

and went out to meet the neighbors.
