My parents just didn't understand about my love for my polka dot sunglasses.
Eyewear of the devil, they called them.
You'd think my 3.5 grade average, my being good about curfew
and my lack of interest in alcohol and drugs would count for something.
They ragged on me about them quite a bit. I was getting tired of hearing it.
But then a friend said that I should remember that my parents were good about a lot of things
and were at least paying attention to me--
even though they were kind of stressing about something stupid.
She said I should imagine for a moment that they weren't there; it wouldn't be so great.
She was right and she was speaking from experience.
So now, I just keep my glasses in my purse and put them on after I leave the house
—problem solved.
Still, it's a good thing they don't know about the tattoo.
