Jaeg drew near the blue orb, perceiving all levels of energy and dimension, as was his standard operating procedure with objects that he might possibly devour.
He read the shadows of the history of life-forms: their rudimentary origins; their evolutions and devolutions; their passing.
He viewed the present - its mad rush and its version of the inevitable food chain,
laced with some compassion and much brutal disregard.
He weighed the balance.
Gazing with cosmic eyes, he bore witness that the sprouts of organic life had likely
already drowned themselves; as unadulterated Greed is always willing to drown others
and even Itself - an ancient story.
Reason enough to put them out of their joy and misery.
He laid bare the strata couching intelligent life-forms from various other places with their various agendas nesting there. They were aware of his presence and were generating certain vortexes of energy in response but they too would be absorbed.
Jaeg contemplated. This macro life-form was little more than a dumb beast to be eaten.
Still, there was a spark, a possibility, of something more.
He removed his finger from the psychic trigger, extracted a small measure of energy
from every star in the system, and moved on
for now.
